Working together to reach your goals
I work from a psychodynamic perspective which means that I view feelings, attitudes, and behaviors as the result of dynamic interactions between internal and external realities. I seek to understand those driving forces as I get acquainted with each client, in order to really understand their goals for therapy and their preferred approach to achieve them.
MINDFULNESS AND MOVEMENT
Grappling with life’s challenges requires the confidence that comes from consistently and reliably returning to a state of relative calm in the face of difficulty. I incorporate targeted mindfulness practices, movement, and breath to facilitate increased self-awareness and regulation. This provides a stable base for specific personal work.
EMDR
When the focus of therapy includes current situations that generate overwhelming emotional responses, or when past experiences feel more present than the moment at hand, EMDR is the best way I know to actually resolve the underlying problem and be restored to a sense of peace and vitality. EMDR leverages the brain’s natural capacity to process experience to heal old wounds and come home to the authentic self.
COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY
When thoughts or repeated behaviors are an issue, I incorporate cognitive and behavioral strategies as a practical way to change self-defeating and unsatisfying patterns.
PROBLEM SOLVING
When you just need to get down to business and do some things differently I can help you employ problem solving strategies to establish new routines and efficiently gain positive momentum by focusing on the low-hanging fruit.
FLIGHT ANXIETY
I have special expertise and experience helping people address anxiety and panic related to flying so they can once again enjoy travel and get to the people and places they love.
BRINGING THERAPY TO LIFE
Relationship is the beginning and end of therapy. Research has shown again and again that the quality of relationship between the client and their therapist is more decisive than treatment modality for achieving goals and completing the work. I seek to work myself out of a job from our first moment together by offering a safe and supportive emotional space where you can experience a consistent sense of acceptance and take risks in vulnerability and change. This serves as a model for other trusted relationships outside the therapy space and makes a smooth and supported transition from therapy to the rest of life possible.
